China Trade Exhibitions Calendar 2026 for Gulf Importers: Where to Go, When, and How to Win
Jan 09, 2026
One well-prepared visit to a major Chinese trade fair can compress a full year of online supplier hunting into a week. At a fair you hold the product in your hands, meet factory owners face to face, compare dozens of suppliers in a single day, and spot next season's trends before your competitors in the Saudi market do. But there is a world of difference between a visitor who wanders the halls and flies home with a bag of catalogues, and a trader who walks in with defined targets and walks out with a shortlist of qualified suppliers and workable quotations.
The Canton Fair: The Most Important Date of the Year
The Canton Fair in Guangzhou is the largest trade fair in the world, held twice a year: a spring session from roughly mid-April to early May, and an autumn session from roughly mid-October to early November. Each session runs in three consecutive phases: phase one covers electronics, appliances, and machinery; phase two covers consumer goods, gifts, and home products; phase three covers textiles, garments, shoes, medical products, and food. Choose your phase carefully before booking flights — attending the wrong phase is the most common and most expensive rookie mistake.
Yiwu: A Fair and a Permanent Market in One
Yiwu, in Zhejiang province, hosts its major commodities fair around October, but its real advantage is that the Yiwu International Trade Market operates year-round with tens of thousands of showrooms. If your business is accessories, gifts, small household goods, or stationery at moderate quantities, a Yiwu trip may serve you better than a seasonal fair — and it combines well with a Guangzhou visit in a single journey.
Specialized Industry Shows Through 2026
- Furniture: CIFF, with editions in Guangzhou (around March) and Shanghai (around September), for furniture and furnishings traders.
- Electronics: the Shenzhen and Hong Kong electronics shows around April and October — geographically close and easy to combine in one itinerary.
- Building materials and finishes: Guangzhou and Shanghai construction, ceramics, and lighting shows, mostly in the first half of the year.
- Industrial machinery and plastics: major specialized events such as Chinaplas alternate between Shanghai and Shenzhen.
- Beauty and personal care: the Guangzhou and Shanghai beauty expos, with spring as the strongest season.
Always confirm official dates on each fair's website before booking — schedules shift from year to year.
Your Pre-Travel Preparation Plan
- Visa and bookings early: Guangzhou hotel prices multiply during Canton Fair weeks, so book well in advance.
- Pre-register online through the fair's website to collect your badge without the queues.
- Build a target product list with specifications and target landed prices from the Saudi market — never go "just to look around".
- Prepare English/Chinese business cards and a WeChat account — WeChat is the real communication channel with Chinese factories, not email.
How to Work the Floor
Do not negotiate seriously in the first aisle. Sweep the entire hall first, photograph the interesting booths, and take instant notes on every supplier: factory or trading company? Minimum order quantity? Lead time? Then return the next day to your shortlist and negotiate in depth. Collect samples, and after the fair reserve a day or two to visit the factories of your top candidates — an elegant booth proves nothing about the factory behind it. Document everything in a single spreadsheet as you go: supplier name, WeChat account, product, indicative price, and minimum order quantity — after a hundred booths, the faces and catalogues blur together in your memory far more than you expect, and the trader with organized notes wins the follow-up phase.
Golden rule: a trade fair is for qualifying suppliers, not closing deals — the good deal is built after the fair through verification, samples, and a factory audit.
If you cannot travel, or you attended and came home with a supplier list that still needs verification, this is exactly where the Terrace International field team based in Guangzhou and Shenzhen works on your behalf: we attend the fairs, visit the factories, negotiate, inspect quality before shipment, and manage the cargo through to Jeddah or Dammam. Contact us before the 2026 fair season and we will map out a plan that fits your business.
