Importing Aluminum Doors & Windows from China
Jun 26, 2026
Aluminum doors and windows are among the highest-volume building products moving through Saudi Arabia's construction sector, from residential towers in Riyadh to hospitality fit-outs along the Red Sea. For contractors and building-material traders, importing directly from China can reduce supply costs by 30 to 50 percent compared with local distributors, while opening access to thermal-break profiles, powder-coated finishes, and sliding, casement, and curtain-wall systems that are difficult to source in volume inside the Kingdom.
Why source aluminum joinery from China
China produces the vast majority of the world's aluminum extrusions, and its factories have spent two decades supplying Europe, Australia, and the Gulf. That scale gives you competitive billet pricing, mature powder-coating and anodizing lines, and the ability to match almost any profile system you specify.
- Cost: Direct factory pricing on profiles and complete units, without the layers of local margin.
- Variety: Thermal-break and non-thermal systems, mosquito-net integration, and finishes from matte black to wood-grain sublimation.
- Customization: Factories will cut, coat, and fabricate to your architectural drawings and Saudi window schedules.
Where in China to buy
Foshan in Guangdong province — specifically the Nanhai and Dali districts — is the undisputed hub for aluminum profiles and finished joinery. It sits within a few hours of our Guangzhou office, which makes factory visits and inspections straightforward. Linyi in Shandong province is a strong secondary cluster, often more competitive on standard sliding windows, while Guangzhou itself hosts trading houses and glass-processing plants for insulated double-glazed units.
Product-specific quality pitfalls
Aluminum joinery hides its weaknesses. These are the failure points our inspectors check on every order:
- Profile wall thickness: Cheap suppliers thin the wall to 1.2 mm or less. For structural windows in Saudi wind loads, insist on 1.4 mm minimum, and 2.0 mm for large sliding doors.
- Powder-coating thickness: Under the Gulf sun and coastal salt, coating below 60 microns fails early. Specify 60 to 80 microns and demand a coating-thickness report.
- Thermal break: The polyamide strip must be genuine PA66 with 25 percent glass fiber, not a cheap filler that degrades in heat.
- Glass: Confirm tempered or laminated safety glass at the correct thickness and, for double glazing, a sealed spacer with desiccant.
- Corner joints and hardware: Weak crimping and low-grade rollers cause sagging and leaks within a year.
SASO, SABER, and the Saudi Building Code
Aluminum windows and their glass fall under Saudi conformity requirements. Safety glass must meet SASO safety-glazing standards, and every shipment of regulated building materials needs a SABER conformity and shipment certificate before customs clearance at Jeddah or Dammam. The Saudi Building Code energy provisions increasingly push thermal-break systems and low-E glass for insulation performance — a real advantage when you can specify these directly at the factory. Budget for 15 percent VAT and ZATCA-compliant invoicing on landed cost.
Shipping, MOQ, and cost
Finished units are bulky and fragile, so loading and crating matter as much as the product. Windows should ship in custom wooden crates with foam edge protection; glass breakage is the most common claim. A typical 40-foot high-cube container carries a mixed order of profiles and assembled units. MOQs are flexible: profile-only orders often start around 3 to 5 tons, while finished-unit factories may accept 100 to 200 square meters. As a rough guide, standard sliding windows land around SAR 150 to 250 per square meter, and thermal-break casement or curtain-wall systems SAR 300 to 450, before duty and VAT.
Common mistakes we see: buyers who order on price alone and receive 1.2 mm profiles, skip the coating report, or forget SABER until the container is already at port — triggering costly demurrage.
