Importing Small Kitchen Appliances (Air Fryers & Blenders) from China

Small kitchen appliances — air fryers, blenders, electric kettles, coffee makers and stand mixers — are among the fastest-moving categories in Saudi retail, driven by younger households and a growing appetite for home cooking. China remains the manufacturing heart of this segment, but bringing these products into the Kingdom involves electrical safety rules and quality traps that catch many first-time buyers off guard. This guide covers the specifics.

Why source from China specifically?

China holds a complete, vertically integrated supply chain: motors, heating elements, plastic moulds and control boards all in one ecosystem. That integration means factory (FOB) prices you will not find in any other market, plus real flexibility on customisation — your own brand, custom colours, a specific voltage, and an Arabic user manual. A 5-litre air fryer can start at USD 12–20 per unit at volume, and a household blender at USD 6–15, leaving a healthy margin after freight and duties.

Where to buy inside China

Do not buy randomly from generic wholesale platforms. The appliance industry is concentrated in Guangdong province, specifically Foshan (Shunde district), the acknowledged global capital of home appliances and home to giants like Midea and Galanz. Zhongshan specialises in small appliances, while Cixi and Ningbo in Zhejiang province are known for kettles and heating elements. Choosing a factory inside the right industrial cluster means deeper expertise, easier spare parts and higher baseline quality.

Product-specific quality pitfalls

  • Air fryers: verify the non-stick coating is PFOA-free, check thermostat accuracy (actual versus set temperature should deviate by only a few degrees), confirm the basket handle is genuinely heat-resistant, and test timer reliability.
  • Blenders: watch for motor burnout under load, ensure the jar is BPA-free, check blade quality and corrosion resistance, and confirm a thermal cut-off is fitted.
  • General: reject any batch shipped at 110V or with a non-compliant plug — it will be rejected at customs and is unsellable.

SASO, SABER and the standards that apply

The product must be registered on the SABER platform and obtain a Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) after a Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC). These appliances fall under the international standard IEC 60335-1 and its appliance-specific sub-parts. Core requirements for the Saudi market: 220–240V / 60Hz, a UK type G plug (BS 1363), and an Arabic label and user manual, plus an energy-efficiency label for certain categories. Ask the supplier for accredited test reports before shipping, not after.

Shipping, MOQ and rough costs

Minimum order quantity is typically 500–1,000 units per model, or a mixed 20-foot container. Sea freight from Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Jeddah runs about 25–35 days. Build into your landed cost the 15% VAT and customs duty (usually 5–15% depending on the tariff line), plus SABER and clearance fees. These appliances are relatively light but bulky, so optimise packaging to reduce the volumetric weight that drives freight cost.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Approving one sample and jumping straight to full production without a pre-shipment inspection.
  2. Skipping electrical conformity testing before confirming the order, exposing you to a full shipment rejection at port.
  3. Failing to document packaging specs and the Arabic manual in the order contract.
An independent in-factory inspection before shipping is far cheaper than re-exporting a batch rejected at Jeddah port.

At Terrace International, our on-the-ground team in Guangzhou visits factories in Foshan and Zhongshan, negotiates pricing, runs pre-shipment quality inspections and manages your SABER registration until your container arrives safely in Jeddah or Dammam.
