How to Specify Your Plant

Everything starts with a source-water analysis: TDS salinity, hardness, iron, and organic load. Send the supplier a recent laboratory analysis and demand a full design with membrane projections and expected recovery at feed temperatures that exceed 30 degrees Celsius in a Saudi summer. A plant designed around temperate European water will fail against our salinity and heat. Decide also between a fixed indoor plant and a containerized plug-and-play unit — the latter is excellent for farms and remote sites.

Components Whose Brands Must Be Verified in the Quotation

• Membranes and pressure vessels: demand the exact brand and model, with serial numbers confirmed at delivery.
• The high-pressure pump — the beating heart of the plant, where an unknown brand is not acceptable.
• Dosing systems, chemical skids, and the automatic backwash arrangement.
• The control panel, its 380V / 60Hz compatibility, and TDS and pressure instrumentation.

Certification and Customs

The equipment falls under SABER conformity with a shipment certificate per consignment. If the plant will produce bottled drinking water, the finished product and your facility come under SFDA requirements — so make sure every wetted part is food-grade, such as stainless steel 304 or 316 and food-safe plastics. Customs duty is approximately 5 percent plus 15 percent VAT, with possible duty exemption for holders of a Saudi industrial license. Sea freight to Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam takes approximately 18 to 30 days.

Common Mistakes

What trips importers most often: buying on nominal capacity without accounting for real feed temperature and salinity, accepting the phrase international components without binding brand names, neglecting pretreatment so the membranes are destroyed within months, and leaving commissioning and training out of the contract. The cheap plant that stops every week is the most expensive plant you will ever own.
